I carried out a major revision and expansion of the Environmental Technology (ET) program of Southwestern College (SWC) to better serve the stakeholders:  business and government employers; the Navy; feeder schools; the San-Diego-Tijuana region; and college students. This revision and expansion was approved by the State of California.

To produce an academically richer program, I created two emphases, or areas of specialty within ET called Environmental Management (EM) and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).  New ET courses, some offering new certificates, were created for the emphases.

The program was expanded onto a second campus, conveniently close to the Naval bases, in National City.  Then, ET courses were alternated between the Chula Vista main campus and the National City Higher Education Center.

ET courses were shortened to approximately six weeks in duration as opposed to the traditional eighteen-week length course.  This course “acceleration” minimized noncompletion of courses by naval personnel who were routinely deployed and gave all ET students a sense of completion.  Three courses with labs were updated to better fit the new minisemesters.

Other revisions to the ET program included: student internships, expansion of field trips, Campus Ecology’s environmental auditing, and my environmental engineering services for campus and community.
