My community outreach efforts fell into two general categories:
- provide alternative energy and environmental information to the general public through various media
- offer a public environmental service
Environmental Awareness Radio
Produced public affairs radio spots on KVMR FM to educate the public about environmental issues. Some radio pieces were:

Nevada County Hazardous Waste Task Force
As a voting member of the Nevada County Hazardous Waste Task Force (HWTF), I assisted in the development and implementation of environmental outreach programs, in addition to advising the County Board of Supervisors on environmental matters. The purpose of the outreach was to educate two target audiences---residents and small business generators---about hazardous materials, waste minimization, and pollution prevention.
HWTF outreach included:
- organizing and running household hazardous waste days
- creating a depot to accept waste batteries, oil, and paint (BOP)
- identify and award small businesses that made strides in waste minimization and/or pollution prevention
- developing and disseminating information on non toxic alternatives to hazardous materials in the form of: brochures and fliers, newspaper advertisements, and cable TV public service announcements
- evaluate outreach programs by surveying the public
Technical Assistance Team
A member of the Technical Assistance Team (TAT) created by the NJ State Police to assist certain high risk communities in generating a community emergency response plan in compliance with Superfund Amendment and Reauthorization Act (SARA) Title III.
Print Media
Wrote articles on environmental problems including the effects on air quality from burning wood and Sherman Antitrust Act violations in municipal waste hauling
Lecture Series Co-coordinator
Planned the lecture series of the Nevada County Earth Day Celebration, which required
- obtaining speakers
- setting up the lecture venue
- co-hosting the lectures
- working as a public liaison
