ROBERT A. EVANGELISTA
REGIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL BUSINESS RESOURCE ASSISTANCE CENTER
In the Fall of 1997, environmental technology professors and college support staff from three community colleges---Southwestern College (SWC), Palomar College, and Cuyamaca College---collaborated and wrote a proposal to the State of California for funding to establish a regional environmental support center for small and medium businesses. The proposal was funded and the San Diego Regional Environmental Business Resource Assistance Center (SD/REBRAC) was born. SD/REBRAC was connected to the three colleges through their environmental technology (ET) programs. SD/REBRAC provided environmental and health and safety, technical support, and regulatory compliance consultation, and provided training to small businesses. Additionally, SD/REBRAC maintained an electronic database of environmental laws and regulations. As lead professor at the SWC ET program, I sat on the SD/REBRAC Advisory Board.
